Medjool dates are a large, extra sweet and soft variety of the date. They make excellent sweeteners for cakes and other desserts. Dates do contain a lot of sugar and should probably be avoided in larger quantities. However, some studies have shown that thanks to their high fiber content dates have a low glycemic index. Besides this, they contain many vitamins and minerals.
Dates can be soaked to make them softer and make it easier to blend them. This usually only requires a couple of minutes. Most medjool dates come from the Middle East, from countries like Saudi Arabia, Israel, Palestina or Jordan.
